Sep. 16 Reading - Jimmy Bui

Emi Yagi - "Diary of a Void"

Coffee, I do not like drinking coffee but the smell I enjoy. I understand that she does not like washing the coffee because she was the working dog that was the one making all the coffee anyways. I understand where she is coming from when she made the section head wash coffee, must have made her feel better about herself and validated to continue her talk.

She does not have a belly even though she is supposedly pregnant. Very odd she is keeping up the act, but this is the reality of some people. Others avoid her, many of them men but there is one nice guy that asks her about her baby showing the true colors of others. Even though she is not pregnant, it is proper to ask how she is feeling.

I'm a tad confused, one she was really committed on faking this pregnancy and now she is actual pregnant getting an ultrasound. This story is getting a tad interesting.

So, this girl faked her pregnancy all the way through, finding another mother to show pictures of this child's pregnancy. Then ultimately leaving the company to do it all over again, to fake another pregnancy.

Yukiko Motoya - "The Lonesome Bodybuilder"

The woman gets no content from her man anymore. She feels lonely because the one person she wants to see her doesn't pays any attention to her.

These stories so far have been about women not being thanked for their work and appreciation, which should happen more often. This is more of a happy ending story telling us the story of the true start and end of a bodybuilder, finding her courage and worth of bodybuilding.

Natsuko Imamura - "The Woman in the Purple Skirt"

I completely thought that the woman in the purple skirt was her sister and the ice skater. However, I was contradicted in the very next chapter. I am pleased to see that they woman in the purple skirt is very nice to children, I believe that is so very cute.

But it is odd to me the narrator is following this old woman through here adventures of getting a job, helping her in every way she can. Trying to have old women in a purple skirt like her succeed. Almost fun and exciting in a way to finally see the woman in the purple skirt get her way and see that the narrator is happy as well.

Aoko Matsuda - "The Most Boring Red on Earth"

Rika is imagining her period, as something different. An odd story of a girl who grew up disliking her period because it was characterized by a man on TV that women = periods, and this Rika grew up thinking that all the way through, right until she focused more on herself. The more she focused the more curious she got and ultimately ended up seeing her period change into pulpy orange juice, which is odd, but different in an interesting way. Until she got into a bath and realized that the period she on, is almost like an extension of herself I would where she was able to let herself go and become calm, just like her and her period becoming a relaxing stream with fish swimming in it. Women Power.

Mieko Kawakami - "Breasts and Eggs"

A woman who worked so hard to pay off her student debt, however everything is not as good as her friend, who she believes made it in life with her significant other.

She wants to relive her past with her lover just like the past; however, it cannot be attainable because her trust in her lover is gone. He had cheated on her for "Physical Desire". Which is honestly unacceptable. Insane for her to go through with giving her body up for the relationship because she though that is what she had to do.

He is condescending man when he called back, trying to get her more active and criticizing her work even though she has been trying to work and addressing government policies, through her work. She should not have given her ex the authority to criticize her.

Now she is swallowing herself back up into a hole, because her ex is doing well, while she is not. Se envies her ex's sex life and almost like secretly wishes that was her.

She ends up having thoughts of having a child of her own to take care of through a sperm bank, but she does not even know where to begin. But as she talks to her friend and starts to wind down eating, watching tv and ad pops up showing her exact thought of wanting to get pregnant through a sperm bank and she might go through with it. Honestly this is the opposite of most stories, yes, she is trying to take actions into her own hands. But in this story, she feels as if she has no control, no power. Almost like others dictates how she feels.

Fumio Yamamoto - "Naked"

Starts off tame, for which the narrator is just knitting and getting inspiration from Pokémon. She got a divorce and does not know what to do with herself. Almost like the previous story where she loses will and fire, like she said herself "sometimes she runs hot or cold". As if she loses passion, when everything around her goes bad. Or hot whenever she's on a hot streak. She does not know her passion, she is unemployed and does not know what to do. Passion gone, does not want to find a job, has money sitting in her account. She does not know what to do with herself, so she rots away.

An odd point of view of a woman feeling like she is losing herself and falling into depression.
