These novels all had unique styles and themes that covered a large range of topics. I wish to highlight the two stories that stood out the most to me this week and discuss how I felt about them.
The Cage of Zeus was deeply resonate with me as I am a person who tries not to conform to one specific gender or set guidlines of idenity. As I frequently use the far more masculine leaning online name of Jeffory. Honestly the character Tei strongly resonated with me and eir own prespective of gender and identity expression which while not my own specific view of my gender it was still deeply fascinating to read about. I appreciated how the prespective was split between eir point of view and that of the commander's own to show how other's viewed Tei and how Tei viewed themselves.
First Rate Material made me feel kind of awful as the idea of making things using pieces of dead humans felt kind of awful and disqusting to me alongside the casualness behind the whole matter. How they discuss and act like it is a luxury made me feel like it was commercialized and a violation of some kind of sacred desecration of human remains. I geniunelt felt so queasy reading this.
